CIRCLEVILLE – Jack Hooks, director of operations of J.R. Hooks Café, was one of many people who shopped the Pickaway County Farmers Market Saturday morning.
"We try to keep the freshest Ohio products in our restaurant," he said.
Coming from a farm background, Hooks said he supports the market every year.
"I'm from a farm family, and my father and uncles had farm gardens," he said. "I would work in the truck patch," filling up a pick-up truck with crops from the garden and then hauling them to market.
He said he encourages everyone to shop the farmers market for "quality and healthy eating," and using today's purchases, J.R. Hooks will be serving fried green tomatoes as a special tonight.
The Pickaway County Farmers Market is in its third year, but its first at Tractor Supply Co. on US Route 23.
It's open every Saturday until August 11 from 9 a.m. to noon.
The Pickaway County vendors offer everything from fresh fruits and veggies to baked goods, honey, kettle corn, coffee and more, said market manager Kristin Sawyer.
Anyone interested in being a vendor this summer should contact Sawyer at 740-248-5606.
