Well, as we all take a deep breath and relax, another wonderful Pumpkin Show has come and gone. We as a community and county can take great joy in putting a positive foot forward regarding our community and county as we once again welcomed family, friends and guests to the 2018 Pumpkin Show.

I would like to in this Values for Living article take the opportunity to give a “A Tip of the Hat” to all of our local individuals, businesses, social groups, churches, schools, community agencies, government officials and service clubs for their participation and support of this great annual event.

Included with those entities mentioned above, let us not forget the countless number of fantastic volunteers within our community and county who give tireless number of hours in service to their fellow citizens and all who come and take part in the Pumpkin Show. These passionate individuals, from those who are already reviewing this past Pumpkin Show and planning for the 2019 Pumpkin Show, to manning street barricades, judging pageants to pies and other things requiring judging, to announcing parades, to be a part of parades and the many, many more who work so hard to make each Pumpkin Show the best it can be. It is truly a great community and county endeavor!

If I may, I would like to take a personal privilege to give a great big shout out to our emergency services personnel, police, sheriff, highway patrol, fire and EMS, as well as our county engineer’s staff, state transportation department staff and especially our city Public Service Department personnel for the outstanding service they provide not only to the citizens of Circleville and Pickaway County, but to our family, friends and guests who attend the Pumpkin Show each year. I want to say each of you on behalf of a grateful citizenry , “thank you, thank you, thank you” for all you do (not only during the Pumpkin Show) every day in keeping our community and county safe and cared for.

Now as we all return to our normal life patterns post-Pumpkin Show, acknowledging the great and wonderful efforts given by so many people to so many people, let us not forget that such enthusiasm, zeal, hard work and ‘bringing forth our best’ for the Pumpkin Show needs, now must continue during the days to come until the next Pumpkin Show.

We live in such a time where being civil and kind to each other seems to be a rarity rather than the norm sometimes in the course of everyday life, yet doesn’t all of the kindness, hard work and putting our best foot forward for one week each October show us we are capable of doing it the other weeks of the year also? Sure, there are issues, difference of thought and opinion, direction and effort sometimes, yet we come together to display to the world a great and wonderful (and fun) event. Why not continue to do it all the time? Will it take extra effort? Sure it will, but it also gives us the opportunity to bring together others, to spread the work if we but let it and still show to others the wonder and greatness when community/county comes together for a common goal.

The annual Pumpkin Show shows us what can be done when people come together for a common effort or goal on behalf of their community and county and, yes, our nation, so why let it be limited to only one week a year?

Again, allow me to express my personal thanks and admiration to all who made and make our annual Pumpkin Show the great and outstanding event it is every year. But now, let us also work just as hard, with as much zeal and effort to make the rest of the year to come before the next Pumpkin Show and the years to come before future Pumpkin Shows just as great and wonderful! We are capable. We can do it! Let it be so.
