Editor:

Recently, our community lost a gentleman that many adults and children knew as Santa Claus, Burl Bowling. Because of his love for children of all ages, his wonderful family made a decision that for his memorial, they requested donations of cash and toys be made to PICCA’s toy program.

You can know that this man was truly loved by so many because of the outpouring of support for the family’s request. PICCA received more than $1,200 in cash donations and bags of toys for the program.

We at PICCA know from the smiles and grateful appreciation on the faces of the children’s parents that the simple gift of a new toy – something many of us take for granted – can make a tremendous difference in the life of a child living in poverty. Burl and his family understood that as well.

PICCA employees, school clubs, organizations and churches hold fundraisers throughout the year to support the program. With the generosity of our citizens, businesses and others like Burl’s family, each year we manage to provide new toys for all eligible children in the county.

We should all be so grateful to live in such a caring community and it takes the whole community to make this program a success each year. I hope that everyone who donated in memory of Burl, feels a sense of fulfillment of toys or funds well spent. Again, thanks to all and keep Toys for Tots on your mind and in your heart for 2019.
