Rhoads speaks at Sunrise Rotary Club

Brett Rhoads, owner and operator of Rhoads Farm Inc., spoke to the Sunrise Rotary club Tuesday and the noon Circleville Rotary club Thursday about the need to use immigrants to successfully run his farm. Brett needs 54 workers for a 10-month season. Local applicants who can pass a drug test will be hired first but a cultural shift has led to fewer local applicants. Rhoads hires workers through the Department of Labor’s H-2A program, which requires rigorous background checks and a detailed list of standards that must be met. Rhoads said without the Mexican laborers it would be virtually impossible to operate the farm.
