Teays Valley senior Mason Spencer recently signed to play collegiate soccer at Malone University, an NCAA Division II institution located in Canton. Spencer was a first-team Mid-State League Buckeye Division honoree this past season for the Vikings.

Q: Who is your favorite singer or music group?

A: Rap and hip-hop. My favorite music artist is NF.

Q: What is your favorite homemade meal?

A: Steak on the grill that my dad makes.

Q: What are your strengths in soccer?

A: Leadership on the field by having the ability to build up the play and to create scoring opportunities.

Q: Name a previous weakness you’ve overcome in soccer?

A: I used to be the smallest guy on the field and now I’ve grown.

Q: What led you to sign with the college you selected?

A: I chose Malone, because it is a good academic fit, it is only two hours from home and I really like how Coach Eric Reed develops his players, make sure they are the correct fit for the team and builds personal relationships.

Q: What are some of your top athletic accomplishments or memories?

A: Four-year varsity player, captain as a junior and senior, two-time first-team all-league and Central Ohio All-Star Game player.

Q: Do you have any pregame rituals or routines?

A: I eat a few Skittles before each game, I always wear a t-shirt to warm-up in and then change into my jersey for the game.

Q: Hobbies?

A: I like to listen to a variety of podcasts when I work.

Q: What career do you want to go in as an adult?

A: I would like to become a Physical Therapist, because of my Aunt Shelley. She inspired me to want to help others overcome their physical limitations just as she has done.

Q: Who has had the greatest influence on your life?

A: My brother Drew, he went to his dream college, played collegiate soccer all while getting his degree in Biomedical Engineering. He inspired me to go after my dreams.

Q: What’s your favorite memory from Pumpkin Show?

A: When a carnival worker gave me and my friends tickets to a ride after hours since we were working in the Village Chapel booth during the regular hours.

Q: Nickname?

A: Triple Threat, because I was a member of the Triple Threat on the soccer field with my best friends, Caleb and Noah, when we were in recreational league.

Q: What is your favorite TV show?

A: The Office or Psych.

A: Call of Duty Black Ops 2

Q: Favorite movie?

A: Ferris Bueller’s Day Off

Q: Favorite restaurant?

A: Cap City Diner; the romano crusted chicken is amazing.

Q: What’s the best present you’ve ever received or given to someone?

A: I gave my girlfriend, Brook, flowers each month for the past 18 months.

Q: What’s your most valuable possession?

A: My great-grandfather’s gold necklace. My family says I remind them of him.

Q: What was your favorite costume you dressed up in for Halloween growing up?

A: Ferris Bueller, because that’s my favorite movie of all-time.

Q: Where would you like to go for your dream vacation, and what would you do there?

A: Going to the Outer Banks with my extended family. I actually get to do this every year and I cherish this time with them.

Q: What’s your favorite school subject?

A: Science, I really enjoyed Biology and Anatomy. I like all sciences.
