ASHVILLE — Once school concluded on Wednesday, it was time to clock in for the Viking wrestlers of Teays Valley. Practicing in the freshman building, four grapplers for the blue and gold convened along with two alternates who hope to have their name called for the state tournament.

For the Vikings, Gunner Havens (106), Camden McDaniel (182), Liam Wilson (220) and heavy weight Joey Thurston took just some of their last moments in the room before they stepped onto the mats at Hilliard Darby this weekend. As a pandemic canceled a season for the squad last year, Teays Valley’s qualified seek to start where they left off.

Accompanying the qualifiers, one of their own, Zander Graham (138), along with lone Brave Cole Renier hope to have their names called this weekend incase any other qualifying wrestlers suddenly drop out. The Division II wrestler from Logan Elm hopes to have one last chance to compete at the state level while Graham, a junior, seeks to support his fellow wrestlers if he is not called.
